Ganymede Pan

A screenplay by David P. Johnson

Logline...
Saving the universe from a mind-controlled psychotropic substance that's fallen into the hands of a child who's been genetically manipulated by the government is all in a day's work for this former fighter pilot. The reluctant hero and his unexpected blue-skinned companion sneak about the galaxy in search of what looks like a tiny lump of clay... a tiny lump of clay that has enough power to destroy light years beyond the universe they already know.

From the author... "Ganymede Pan is an extremely fun and energetic romp through the eyes of a reluctant hero who learns he needs to change his ways a bit if he's going to manage to etch out any kind of decent life for himself in the future. Along the way, he enlists the help of Phoebe and his elusive pet that keeps him guessing - and although Ganymede wouldn't admit it - these two keep him caring about the galaxy he finds himself drifting about."

Help fund a project to benefit underprivileged children through live theater by way of the on-line Pepsi Grant Competition!

Who has funds for the arts these days? Nobody I know personally, locally or in the state of California... but apparently Pepsi does and they're willing to share it.

My producer and I have gone through a few fairly rigorous steps in order to secure a position on the Pepsi Grant Competition... and we're relying on all of you theatre supporters to help get us off the ground. It costs you nothing but a few minutes to log in and vote for our project... yeah - you have to register with Pepsi and all of that... but do it because you love theatre and because we're asking you for help. None of the people that have registered have been bothered by SPAM... Pepsi's a little too Internet savvy for that.

The Deceptive Dragon is a script currently in development as a children's theatrical production as well as a traditionally animated 2D short film. The children's theatre show is actually called Princess Daphne and The Deceptive Dragon. We intend to double cast the show with children from economically depressed communities and mix them in with a few veteran performers in order to create an interactive experience that teaches not only the valuable lesson contained in the script - but also the value of the arts. The government used to assist in the funding process for these types of projects - but with the economy continuing to sputter - we have to seek funding elsewhere in order to promote the idea.

To be directed by award-winning writer and director David P. Johnson, who brought us Sally Spectre the Musical, the story is a fable with a focus on celebrating individuality and courage... and not giving in to peer pressure. These have always been fabulous lessons, but they may even be more pertinent now as the world has continued to develop a global personality that puts us in positions to work more closely with newer cultures and different perspectives.

The animation project boasts several animation artists from studios like the Walt Disney Animation Studios, Dreamworks Animation, and Fox Studios who have been tapped to participate.  Kathy Schoeppner, formerly of Disney Animation Studios, is Producing both incarnations of the show.

To date, no projects in California have been awarded grant money from this program.  Awards are determined by the number of votes received in each prize category of $5000, $25,000, $50,000 and $250,000.  Submitted projects are voted on by users who log in to the site and vote on up to ten projects per day.

Users may vote for each project once per day, throughout the entire month of April.
