Heather Keller wrote the play Bizarre as part of the esteemed writer's workshop program at Theatre West in Los Angeles, CA. A standout piece, it was selected to be the closing vignette for the BUMP show at Theatre West which consisted of similar short plays. Heather had already worked with director David P. Johnson on another one act play - A Dose of Family - written by Matthew Hoffman. This wonderful and experimental piece starred Heather opposite the very talented Adam Conger as a couple struggling with the over-the-counter pharmaceutical tendencies that are offered with very little objection by today's poorly arranged and monitored health care system.
Feeling strongly that David was the right director to work on Bizarre - a comedy laden piece that boasts some profound sub-text - the two set out to make the piece the best it could be. The result... a smashing success.
An extremely talented cast headed by Pat Crawford-Brown (Desperate Housewives), and Barbara Mallory (Airplane), along with stalwarts Mary Garipolli, Adam Conger, the affable Roger Cruz and handsome Yancey Dunham all contributed to elevate the performance above standard one-act level. Original music composed specifically for the show by David P. Johnson added to the mystique. Set design and construction by David and Erin Holt, another very talented actress who happened to lend her expertise with the nuts and bolts of putting up a play. The play was expertly stage managed by Courtney Webb...
